Video: #HuddleUp Student Athlete Mental Health Initiative

If you’ve looked at your social media in the last week, chances are you’ve spotted a video, Facebook update, profile picture change, or hashtag promoting the Bell Let’s Talk campaign. The campaign is part of Mental Health Awareness week, and it’s urging each and every one of us to start a conversation around mental health, and take it one step further by working together as a community to help increase awareness, change attitudes regarding mental illness, and reduce negative attitudes and stigma around mental health issues. This may be a Canadian campaign, but the message is universal.  Roughly, 1 in 5 North Americans suffer from a mental illness, many are people you’d never suspect, take for example the student athlete in this video, care of the Student Athlete Mental Health Initiative – SAMHI

1 in 5 Canadians will experience a mental illness in their lifetime. This includes student-athletes. If you notice a friend or teammate is not acting like themselves, reach out and show your support. It’ll mean so much more than you may realize. www.samhi.ca. CC: Student Athlete Mental Health Initiative – SAMHI
